Verses & Poems

Verse 061

Irish Blessing
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
The sun shine warm upon your face
The rain fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Verse 062

Mothers Never Die...
They Just Keep House In The Sky

When we are children, we are happy and gay
And our mother is young and she laughs as we play,
Then as we grow up, she teaches us truth
And lays life's foundation in the days of our youth ---
And then it is time for us to leave home
But her teachings go with us wherever we roam,
For all that she taught us and all that we did
When we were so often just such a "bad, little kid"
We will often remember and then realize
That mothers are special and wonderfully wise...
And as she grows older, we look back with love
Knowing that Mothers are gifts from above.
And when she goes home to receive her reward
She will dwell in God's Kingdom and
"Keep house for the Lord"
Where she'll "light up" the stars
that shine through the night
And keep all the moonbeams "sparkling and bright"
And then with the dawn she'll put the darkness away
As she scours the sun to new brilliance each day...
So dry tears of sorrow, for Mother's don't die --
They just move in with God and "keep house in the sky"
And there in God's Kingdom, mothers watch from above
To welcome the children with undying love!

Verse 063

The Oak Tree
A mighty wind blew night and day.
It stole the oak tree’s leaves away,
Then snapped its boughs and pulled its bark
Until the oak was tired and stark.
But still the oak tree held its ground
While other trees fell all around.
The weary wind gave up and spoke,
“How can you still be standing, Oak?”
The oak tree said, “I know that you
Can break each branch of mine in two,
Carry every leaf away,
Shake my limbs, and make me sway.
But I have roots stretched in the earth,
Growing stronger since my birth.
You’ll never touch them, for you see,
They are the deepest part of me.
Until today, I wasn’t sure
Of just how much I could endure.
But now I’ve found, with thanks to you,

Verse 064

If tomorrow starts without me,
And I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too;
But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.
But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.
So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.

Verse 065

“I hear a voice you cannot hear,
Which says I must not stay.
I see a hand you cannot see,
Which beckons me away.”

Verse 066

The Plan Of The Master Weaver
Our lives are but fine weavings
That God and we prepare,
Each life becomes a fabric planned
And fashioned in His care.
We may not always see just how
The weavings intertwine,
But we must trust the Master’s hand
And follow His design,
For he can view the pattern
Upon the upper side,
While we must look from underneath
And trust in Him to guide......
Sometimes a strand of sorrow
Is added to His plan,
And though it’s difficult for us,
We still must understand
That it’s he who fills the shuttle,
It’s he who knows what’s best,
So we must weave in patience
And leave to Him the rest......
Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why
The dark threads are as needed
In the Weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern he has planned.

Verse 067

After Glow
I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an after glow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
of happy memories
that I leave when life is done.

Verse 068

Our Special Place In Heaven
There’s a special place in Heaven
that’s reserved for you and I,
A special little place in our
home up in the sky.
And if God calls me to Heaven
and I reach it before you,
I promise I’ll take care of it the
way you’d want me to.
I will keep it warm and tidy -
the way you like a home to be,
And I’ll brighten it with Heaven’s
flowers, angel’s songs
and poetry.

Verse 069

Count your garden by the flowers
Never by the leaves that fall,
Count your days by golden hours
Don’t remember clouds at all.
Count your nights by stars not shadows,
Count your life by smiles not tears.
And with joy throughout your lifetime,
Count your age by friends not years.

Verse 070

Mother
Once upon Eternity,
Above the clouds so high,
There was a special angel,
Who had no wings to fly,
Her hands were soft and gentle,
Her smile was tender too,
Her eyes were warm and sunny,
And glowed, as Halos do.
So God sent down his Angel,
Who differed from the others,
To spread her gentle
Love on Earth,
And we proudly called her
MOTHER.
