BOB PAYNE

1940 - 2007

Robert Lorimer Payne, beloved husband of Jeannette Payne of Taber, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2007 at the age of 66 years.
Besides Jeannette, his loving wife of more than forty years, he is survived by his three sons, Robert (Louise) Payne of Taber and their children Nicole (Dylon Kozniuk), Amanda, Joel & Jaimee; Kenneth Payne of Taber and his children Trinity & Triyana-Lee; Marvin Payne of Calgary and a great granddaughter Morgan Kozniuk. He is also survived by two sisters, Maysie Payne of Westbank, British Columbia and Lois (Jack) Benge of Yakama, Washington; sister-in-law Linda (Larry) Christensen of Taber; four brothers-in-law, Melvin (Bea) Kunz of Taber, Larry Kunz of Taber, Gerald (Cindy) Kunz of Bow Island and Randy (Mary Knowles) Kunz of Taber as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother Karleen Payne, father George Kent Payne; two brothers, Leroy Payne and Vernon Payne; father-in-law Alfred Kunz and mother-in-law Angelina Kunz.
Bob was born in McLeod Valley, Alberta on June 27, 1940. Over the course of his school age years, he and his family lived at Hope, British Columbia; Yakama, Washington; Fort Assiniboine, Alberta and Medicine Hat before settling in Taber in his twenties. On July 9, 1966, he married Jeannette Kunz at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. Bob worked in oil field construction before starting with Canada Packers in 1967. After thirteen years with their company, he worked in the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator before he and Jeannette purchased Prairie Taxi in 1984. Together they owned and operated this business until 1991.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, boating and camping. He also enjoyed acid etching mirrors. Bob loved to spend time with his grandchildren who he referred to as his “sugar pumkins”. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, February 2, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Mariusz Sztuk SDS, officiating.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Robert’s name may be made directly to the charity of one’s personal choosing.
