Clarence Kunz

1938 - 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, papa and great grampa. Clarence Otto Kunz of Taber, beloved husband of the late Florence Kunz (née Turnbull), passed away in Lethbridge on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at the age of 86 years.

A private burial service was held at the Prairieview Cemetery, Grassy Lake on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Clarence is survived by his five children Tiwana (Mike) Dean, Connie Kunz, Clarice (Don) VanHuizen, Shannon Wolskyj and Rick (Gena) Kunz; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife Florence; parents Otto and Martha Kunz; brother Marvin Kunz; in-laws Buck and Mary Turnbull; brothers-in-law Lee and Lynn Turnbull; nephews Troy Turnbull and Larry Kunz.

Clarence was born in the Medicine Hat General Hospital on March 23, 1938 to Otto and Martha Kunz. He lived with his parents in Schuler for two years, Medicine Hat for three years and Redcliff for three years, where he received his grade one education. They then moved to Bow Island where he graduated in 1956.

Clarence married Florence Turnbull on July 18, 1957 in Grassy Lake at St. Luke’s Anglican Church by Reverend Buchanon. They lived in Grassy Lake until 1976 when they moved to Taber where he has resided until the time of his passing.

Clarence was employed by the Alberta Department of Environment for thirty seven years, retiring in 1993. He lived a long and happy retirement. Clarence loved his work as a terrestrial surveyor and turned his interest to wood working in his later years.

He was a member of the Elks of Canada and holding offices provincially and nationally, was also a member of the Anglican Church and a Ham radio operator. Clarence and Florence were avid campers and visited much of Canada and the western United States.
