Joan Snaith

1936 - 2024

It is with great sadness and love that the family of Olga Joan Snaith (née Sivertson) announce her passing in Taber on Friday, February 9, 2024 at the age of 87 years.

In keeping with Joan's wishes, a double "celebration of life" memorial with her beloved husband David will be held at the Vauxhall Lions Park on Saturday, August 3, 2024. A private family burial service will be held at the Vauxhall Cemetery.

Joan is survived by her sons and daughters, Gregory (Carol) Snaith of Edmonton, Jacqueline (Gordon) Petersen of Sherwood Park, Ray (Viola) Snaith of Sanford, Manitoba, and Kelly (Brian) Madruga of Florence, Montana; nine grandsons and granddaughters, Jeremy, Jennifer, Jolene, Jason, Jessica, Carley, Gillian, Jaslynn and Colton; five great grandsons and great granddaughters, Ashton, Annaliese, Hannah, Felix and Tucker. She is also survived by her brother Gerald (Beverly) Sivertson, sister in laws Ellen Snaith, Fran (Bob) Wright and by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband David Snaith and three sisters, Betty Sivertson, Helen Odland and Marlene Pakarno.

Joan was born in Carmangay on October 31, 1936, growing up in Enchant district, the daughter of Sivert and Mabel Sivertson. Post high school, Joan attended and graduated from the Lethbridge Galt School of Nursing in 1957 and enjoyed a fulfilling career in the medical industry, working in both homecare and at the Vauxhall Medical Clinic. It was during her nursing training Joan met the love of her life, David Snaith from Vauxhall. They married in March 1959 and began a lifetime of memories, having celebrated sixty four years of marriage.

Joan's passions included gardening, baking, sewing, knitting, and hosting family celebrations. Joan was awarded life membership in recognition of her outstanding service to the Galt School of Nursing Alumnae Society.
