BERTHA WIEBE

1921 - 2010

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bertha Isobel Wiebe in Taber on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the age of 89 years.
The Funeral Service will be held at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Arij Langstraat officiating. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Leaving to mourn this exceptional mother, grandmother and great grandmother are her sons Bill (Janis) Wiebe of Calgary, Ivan Wiebe of Taber and Malcolm (Valorie) Wiebe of Taber; grandchildren Lisa (Jim) Crayford and Kris (Zoltan) Nevelos of Calgary, Jason (Dawne) Wiebe and Chad (Michelle) Wiebe of Taber; her precious great grandchildren Jordan Crayford of Calgary, Josh, Madeline & Matthew Nevelos of Calgary, Logan & Gage Wiebe of Taber and Konnor & Lincoln Wiebe of Taber. Her sense of humor and infectious laugh will also be missed by her nieces, nephews and many good friends.
Bertha was predeceased by her husband Henry in 1981, grandson Bradley, her parents and by her siblings.
Bertha was the youngest of six children. She was born to Robert & Ida Finlay on July 18, 1921 in Virden, Manitoba. After growing up on the family farm, Bertha’s adventurous spirit brought her to Alberta where she met and married the love of her life, Henry Wiebe. Together they raised their three sons Bill, Ivan and Malcolm.
She was an exceptional homemaker, and loved to dance, do crossword puzzles, bowl, play crib and smear and visit with her many friends. She volunteered for many years at Taber Extended Care and was a longtime member of UCW at Knox United Church.
Mom was Ivan’s biggest fan when he played baseball and she supported her grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their activities as well. She became a huge hockey fan and loved watching her grandsons and great grandsons play; rarely missing a game and traveling all over western Canada cheering them on. Spending time with her family was important and many trips were made to Manitoba and Calgary.
Bertha was a dynamic and independent minded woman of irrepressible spirit who always put her family's needs before her own. She was the matriarch of our family. We will miss her understanding and accepting ways and words of wisdom that we’ve all counted on throughout the years.
