ADO BERTIE

1926 - 2010

"GONE FISHING"
Ado Armondo Bertie, beloved husband of Ollie Bertie of Taber, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the age of 83 years.
Besides his loving wife Ollie, Ado is survived by his children Monalie (Dennis) Nessman of Calgary and their children Chad and Ryan (Deena); Tom Bertie of Taber and his children Aaron, Michael, Kevin and their mother Monica Basque; Michelle (Brian) Holthe of Taber and their children Brett (Tamara), Mark, Ty and Chase; Mark (Michelle) Bertie of Calgary and his son Jordan; Nanette (Ernest) Dupont of Taber and their children Spencer (Crista) Valgardson and Lace Dupont; three great grandchildren Emily, Ryder and Tatum.
He was predeceased by his father Tom Mancini, mother Silvia Mancini, brother Freddie and sisters Amanda (Hubert) Pyne, Laura (Gordon) Tolton and Lillian Bertie.
Ado was born May 19, 1926 in Coalhurst. When he was six years of age, the family moved to Taber where he resided the rest of his life. In 1949, Ado married Olive Duncan and they would have celebrated their sixty first wedding anniversary on May 3, 2010.
As a young man, Ado took over the family businesses, the Palace Hotel in Taber and the Royal Hotel in Burdett and together with Ollie, they ran the businesses until their sale. When he was younger, Ado was an avid curler, golfer and fisherman. In later years, he loved to spend time on his boat “The Ado Ollie” fishing the Kootneys, always waiting to catch the illusive big one he named “Walter”.
Ado was an excellent gardner, taking special pride in his tomatoes. He enjoyed creating his own recipes in the kitchen. Ado was famous for his Italian specialties and less famous for his banana prune cream pie. He dearly loved his parrot Kelly and she would often sit perched on his knee as he watched television from his recliner.
A private family funeral service will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel on Saturday, April 17, 2010 with Reverend Mr. Cliff Bogdan officiating.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Ado’s name may be made directly to STARS, 1441 Aviation Park NE, PO Box 570, Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7.
