ERNIE MARTENS
1937 - 2010
Ernest Martens, beloved husband of Emily Martens, passed away in Taber on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the age of 72 years.
Besides his loving wife Emily, he is survived by his children Darlene (John) Wright of High River and their children Ryan (Farzana) Wright (daughter Prema) and Richelle Wright; Darrell (Carla) Martens of Coaldale and their children Chris Martens (his friend Cathy), Kimberley Martens (her fiancé Marco Slingerland); Dean Martens of Taber; Doug (Pam) Martens of Taber and their children Laurie (Brent) Untereiner (children Kaitlyn and Evan), Jennifer (Chris) Bruce (child Morgan), Amber (Luke) Langlands (child Tessa). He is also survived by his siblings Evelyn (George) Kopervas, Irvin (Gloria) Martens, Linda (Dennis) Biesel, Sophie (Stan) Weiss, Ron (Tyke) Martens, Michelle (Ed) LaBlanc and Angela (Ken) Duke; sisters-in-law Rose (Charlie) Beaman, Joan (Elio) Kain and Florence Martens; brothers-in-law Bernard (Elsie) Elder and Bill (Monica) Elder as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Abe and Eva Martens; brother Menno Martens; father and mother-in-law Bernard and Rose Elder; sister-in-law Sister Helen Elder.
Ernie was born October 5, 1937 at Newhorst, Saskatchewan and at a young age moved to Taber. He married Emily Elder on May 12, 1958. Ernie spent the majority of his life working in the
Taber oilfield. Together Ernie and Emily owned and operated D & E Transport plus a few other oilfield related businesses. Ernie’s interests were his family, old cars, fishing, nature and camping. Ernie’s shop became the local coffee hangout. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Patrick Furtado SAC, Celebrant. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
