DAVE HAY

1919 - 2010

David Richard Hay, beloved husband of Olive Hay, passed away peacefully in Taber on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at the age of 90 years.
He was a devoted father to Richard (Jo-Ann) Hay of Taber, Carol (Lloyd) Thompson of Warner and Janet (Rodney) Ober of Coaldale; grandfather to Chris (Jen) Hay, Beau (Denise) Hay, Quin Hay, Mark (Naomi) Thompson, Ty Thompson, Levi (Heather) Ober and Clay Ober; great grandfather of eight.
Dave was born on November 8, 1919 in Red Deer where he was raised and educated and where he met the love of his life. After serving in the RCAF overseas for four years, he came home and they were married. They first settled in Prince Rupert then Vegreville and finally moved to Lethbridge in 1967. Dad worked for the Singer Sewing Company for over fifty years. Afer retirement, dad was bored, so he went to work for Sheets Grain Systems. He also helped widows and widowers with their war pensions, and benefits when they were unable to; even traveling to Toronto on their behalf. Dad loved animals, and you could always find a cat or dog curled up on his knee, and a smile on dad’s face.
Dave loved to travel, spending many family vacations in the Okanagan, traveling numerous times to Hawaii, Arizona, England and Madeira. He was an incredible craftsmen. As a hobby he started carving plastic and took first place at the Pacific Nationial Exhibition with his work. He loved photography, and took many beautiful pictures, his favourite being pictures of flowers. Dad was an avid curler, and skipped his rink to win an Alberta Legion Championship. He also loved a good game of pool, and was Alberta Senior Champion two times.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Taber Memorial Garden prior to the funeral service on Saturday, February 27, 2010.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Bob Wallace officiating.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Dave’s memory may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society for Lethbridge and Area, 402, 740 – 4 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 0N9.
