ERIC HIMEL

1939 - 2010

Eric James Himel, beloved husband of Mae Himel of Vauxhall, passed away unexpectedly in Taber on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the age of 70 years.
Besides his loving wife Mae, Eric is survived by his daughter Rebecca (Dennis) Lupul of Foisy and their children Larissa & Nicholas; son John Himel of Chemainus, British Columbia; brother Nolan (Gail) Himel of White Castle, Louisiana and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Louisiana.
He was predeceased by his parents Nolan & Grace Himel.
Eric was born in Donaldsonville, Louisiana on June 2, 1939 and was raised on a sugar cane farm near White Castle, Louisiana. After attending Louisiana State University, he pursued his love of planes and joined the United States Air Force, stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base. During his time at F.E. Warren, he met Mae Romig who was also serving at the base and they were married August 22, 1964. In 1966 they immigrated to Canada and settled in Vauxhall where they have resided since. Eric was employed with Pro Motors and later McFadden Honda. He coached junior high boys basketball for a few years and kept score for the senior high teams. Eric had many interests and hobbies which included hunting white tail deer and antelope, the game of basketball and automobiles. He made remote control cars and airplanes and collected knives and swords. He enjoyed creole food, Bonsai plants, video games and computers.
Eric will be privately remembered by his family and friends.
