SHIRLEY HIGGINS
1936 - 2010
Shirley Yvonne Higgins, beloved wife of Terence Higgins of Vauxhall, passed away in Lethbridge on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the age of 73 years.
Besides her loving husband Terence, Shirley is survived by her daughters Bonny & Mel Wiebe of Lethbridge, Bev (formerly a Jensen) & Michael Barbour of Mountain View and Judy & Stewart Davison of Cache Creek, British Columbia; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Joyce & Pete Odland of Coaldale, brother Joe & Phyllis Higgins of Brooks; brother-in-law Lloyd & Doris Higgins of Taber as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter Andrea Higgins, grandson Terence Webster Higgins, a sister Madeline Collins and brother-in-law Corky Collins.
Shirley was born in Cardston February 9, 1936 to Joe & Yvonne Higgins. In her early years she was educated at Cache Creek, British Columbia and her high school years were spent in Vauxhall. Eventually Shirley returned to British Columbia where she began raising her girls. In 1968 she returned to Vauxhall where she met Terence Higgins and they were married October 8, 1976 and have remained in Vauxhall ever since.
Shirley loved spending time with her family. They were the most important to her. She loved taking care of people over the years - whether it was cooking a meal and sharing it or giving a ride to Taber. Shirley was a member of the Vauxhall Seniors and the Royal Canadian Legion. She loved wood working, oil painting and quilting. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time tending the flowers in her yard. Shirley loved animals - and will be missed by her cat Sweet Pea.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, February 7, 2010 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
A private family burial will be held at the Vauxhall Cemetery prior to the funeral service on Monday, February 8, 2010.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Mel Wiebe officiating.
