MARY BALCOM

1924 - 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Mary McCarthur Balcom who passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the age of 85 years following a lengthy illness.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her children and grandchildren - son Harry (Coral) Balcom and their children RaeAnn (Ron) Milligan and Corey Balcom of Kimberley; son Wynn (Barb) Balcom and their daughters Kim May and Jaime (Chad) Demott of Kimberley; daughter Lynda (Ken) Dortman and their daughters Ashley Dortman (Shane) and Rachel Dortman of Kamloops; daughter Janice Hryciuk (Joe Pendry) and her children Michael, Byron, Kaitlyn and Kayla Hryciuk of Bow Island. She is also survived by her great grandchildren and her nieces Agnes Komerevich of Kelowna and Maureen McClelland of Cranbrook.
She was predeceased by her husband Cy Balcom.
Mary was born in Fernie on April 21, 1924. She lived a full life doing many wonderful things, a few of which were was spending time with grandchildren, shopping with her daughters and spending time with her close friend Linda Nelson. She loved giving Darla and the staff in the Long Term Care wing of the Bow Island Health Centre a rough time. Mary had a way of talking her friend Aaron from the kitchen to bring her a pizza every week.
Mary resided in Kimberley until just a few years ago when she moved to Bow Island to be closer to Janice. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 139 - 2 Avenue West, Bow Island on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Sheila McLeod officiating.
