She attended Montrose School, often riding horseback to and from school with her brother and sisters. As a young girl, she played the piano for Sunday school and also played in a band. Pioneer life wasn’t easy, but she enjoyed a loving family and was often her father’s dance partner in community events and dances. In her later life, she enjoyed league bowling with her friends in Taber. Mabel came to Alberta from Saskatchewan in the late 1930’s to visit her sister Dora. In the course of events, she met her sweetheart, Glen Peterson and they were married at the Peterson family home in Barnwell on January 14, 1941.
