1926 - 2008

Jacob “Jake” Born, beloved husband of Freda Born of Taber, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the age of 81 years.
Jake was born to Jacob and Wanda Wiebe in Orenberg, Russia on October 19, 1926 and the same year moved with his parents to Canada. At the age of three he was adopted by Isaac and Elizabeth Born and grew up in Alberta.
During his years at Bible School Jake committed his life to Christ. He was baptized and joined the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church. Jake married Freda Friesen on March 4, 1951 in the Coaldale M.B. Church. They set up their home in Coaldale and were blessed with a daughter Norma and son Richard.
During his time in Coaldale, Jake owned a dairy farm as well as worked as a diesel mechanic for Marshall Auto Wreckers and Coaldale Dairy.
In 1960 he moved the family to Taber and started the milk route for Coaldale Dairy. During his time in Taber, Jake also worked for HoneyBoy Bread and then later as a salesman for McDonald Chev Olds. Throughout his life Jake and his son Rick owned various rental properties and built numerous homes together.
Jake and Freda attended the Evangelical Free Church and they enjoyed the time they spent with them. In his final years the church members and especially Pastor Ron Gartly and his wife Beryl were a great strength for Jake and Freda with their love and prayers.
Jake will be remembered for the value that he put in family relationships. He prayed daily for his children and grandchildren. He exemplified a Christ-centered character and had a gift for helping others. Jake was a quiet, generous man who had a powerful impact on the lives of all that knew him.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by all. We are comforted with the knowledge that he is at home with his Lord.
Jake is survived by his loving wife Freda as well as their daughter Norma (Edgar) Knibb of Strathmore and their children Jason (Diane) Knibb and Crystal (Brian) Zens; son Rick (Cicelia) Born of Taber and their children Tyler, Colton, Trevor (Cori) and Dustin. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, August 31, 2008 between 7:00 and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Evangelical Free Church, 5431 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Monday, September 1, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Ron Gartly officiating. A private family burial will follow at the Coaldale Mennonite Cemetery.
