MARY MAKINSON
1903 - 2009
Mary Thelma Makinson beloved wife of the late Joseph Makinson, passed away in Taber on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the age of 106 years.
She is survived by her daughters Helen Archer, Vi (Martin) Charlton and Josie (LeBlanc) Dunz all of Taber; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter Thelma (Smith) Winchester; son William “Bill” Makinson; grandchildren Wayne Smith, Ray Martin and Jim Martin; sons-in-law Wilbert Smith, Norton Winchester, John Archer, Allen Martin, Harry Charlton, Maurice LeBlanc and Wesley Dunz; parents Peter and Margaret Cook; brother Willard Cook; sisters Hazel Haynes and Lafern (Haynes) Radway; brothers-in-law Theodore Haynes, Percy Haynes and Jean Radway; sister-in-law Pansy Cook.
Mary was born in Stirling on January 4, 1903 to Peter and Margaret Cook. She was raised in Purple Springs where she also attended school. She married Joseph Makinson on November 11, 1922. Mary worked as a secretary for the Driftwood Bend School and even spent a short time teaching. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, knitting and baking. She also liked playing cards and was even playing up until a couple of days before her passing. Mary was also involved with
the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Most of all Mary enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be forever in their hearts.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Monday, October 12, 2009 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. only as no meet the family is scheduled prior to the funeral service.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Mark Baldry conducting. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
