CLARA WESTERHOUD

1927 - 2008

Entering into the glory of the Lord, Clara “Klaske” Westerhoud, beloved wife of Tim Westerhoud of Taber, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, March 31, 2008 at the age of 81 years.
Besides Tim, her loving husband of 52 years, Clara is survived by her children Fenny (Shaun) Harpell of Taber, Linda (Hank) Overeem of Ponoka, Andy (Cathy) Westerhoud of Taber and Mike (Natasha) Westerhoud of Wetaskiwin; her grandchildren Amanda & Melissa Harpell, Darren (Lisa) Overeem, Brad (Sarah) Overeem, Eileen, Janelle & Alana Overeem, Candace Westerhoud and a great granddaughter Leah Overeem. She is also survived by two brothers, three sisters and numerous other relatives.
She was predeceased by her son Cornelius, parents Anne & Fettje Dykstra, one brother and one sister.
Clara was born January 29, 1927 in Tirns, Friesland, The Netherlands. She received her schooling in The Netherlands before immigrating to Canada in 1948, settling in Turin. In the fall of 1952, Clara met Tim Westerhoud and they were married in Redcliff on January 14, 1956. They resided in Redcliff until 1957 when Tim, Clara and their first child Fenny moved to Taber where Clara has resided since.
Clara was active with the Ladies Aid at the church. She enjoyed biking, camping and fishing in her earlier years. She loved to knit, read and spend time with her family. Clara was a patient,
kind, strong but quiet woman who always had a smile on her face. She will be dearly missed.
A private family burial service will be held at the Taber Memorial Garden prior to the funeral service.
The Funeral Service will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church (corner of Hackney Drive and Highway 36 south) Taber on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 2:00 P.M.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Clara’s name may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 210D - 12A Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta T1H 2J1.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Good Samaritan Society West Highland Centre for the care and compassion shown to Clara during her stay.
