CAROL WRIGHT

1955 - 2008

Carol Elizabeth Wright, beloved wife of Doug Wright of Taber, passed away after a long struggle with illnesses on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the age of 53 years.
Besides her loving husband Doug, she is survived by her daughter Coralee (Dwayne) Skretting of Enchant and Jennifer Wright of Taber; three grandchildren Shelby, Wyatt and Owen Skretting; mother Mary Wiebe; siblings Mary Anne (Lorne) Shields, Douglas (Bev) Wiebe, who is also battling ALS and Craig Wiebe as well as numerous other family members who will miss her dearly.
She was predeceased by her father Peter Wiebe.
Carol Elizabeth Wiebe was born April 15, 1955 to Peter and Mary Wiebe. She lived a happy yet simple childhood on a farm near Scandia with her siblings. Though she never grew up in wealth it was clear from her stories that life was good, creative and full of imagination, but mostly love. Later in life Carol met Douglas Wright, son of Russel and Mildred Wright. The two were married August 18, 1973. In 1974 the simple life continued as Doug and Carol bought a lot and set up a fourteen foot mobile home in Hays where they raised their two daughters, Coralee and Jennifer. Carol was a very hard worker, together with Doug they ran an oilfield construction business, where she would throw on her coveralls and hard hat to accompany Doug in the dirty work. Although she was up to her armpits in dust, sweat and grease, Carol always found the time to drive her daughter’s sports teams to their “out of towners”. She is probably one of the best Bandit cheerleaders Hays has ever had. Carol put in her time working for numerous committees in Hays and when she had a little free time she was an incredible “green thumb”. Over the years she also had a passion for writing, she wrote some beautiful short stories that were published for the Taber Times soap box. In 1996 Carol became a grandma. “Nana” was her official title and she wore it with great pride. Shelby was born and two brothers followed, Wyatt and Owen. In 2002 Doug and Carol moved to an acreage overlooking the river at Taber. This was a dream come true as Carol couldn’t wait to work in her larger yard and fix up her home. But the dream was put on hold in 2004, when Carol was faced with a rare form of Lymphoma, undergoing several treatments of chemo and radiation. It appeared to be doing the job but the cancer came back and she under went a stem cell transplant. Although worn out she was ready to make a come back, but her legs refused to co-operate with her. Suspecting it was a result of cancer there remained hope for her strength to return, yet her legs got worse and further tests confirmed her nightmare, Carol was diagnosed with ALS. This horrible disease ate away her remaining years, stealing her strength and voice. On the morning of July 23, 2008 Carol finally found peace.
A private family service will be held.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Carol’s name can be made directly to the ALS Society of Alberta, #400, 320 - 23 Avenue S.W., Calgary, Alberta T2S 0J2.
