Eleanor Kathleen Wiens, beloved wife of Walter Wiens of Bow Island, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Saviour while surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the age of 53 years following a courageous battle with cancer.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband Walter and their children Julene & Steven Reimer of Calgary; Jeremy & Stacey Wiens of Coaldale; Janelle Wiens of Calgary and by her two precious granddaughters, Abby Reimer and Kamryn Wiens. She is also survived by her parents Ben & Marg Reimer; brothers Gerald (Kathy) Reimer, Harvey (Sue) Reimer, Brent (Susan) Reimer and by her sister Dorothy (Reg) Robey. She was also loved by her mother & father-in-law, Jake & Louise Wiens; brothers-in-law Dave (Ellie) Wiens, Arnie (Care) Wiens, Harvey Wiens, Philip Wiens as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Eleanor was born in Coaldale on October 6, 1954. At six months of age, the family moved to a farm south of Burdett where she became her mother's number one companion. Eleanor gave her heart to the Lord at the age of five and all that have known her have seen God's light shining through her life. She attended Foremost School up to grade twelve and completed her twelfth year at Senator Gershaw School in Bow Island. She graduated from Bethany Bible Institute in the spring of 1975. Before meeting her future husband, Eleanor took her secretarial course at Lethbridge Community College. She also gained work experience in many areas including the Burdett General Store, a receptionist for the dental office of Dr. Penner, and also as a music teacher teaching piano lessons. During this time, Walter Wiens had been fasting and praying for God to bring that special woman into his life. God answered Walter's prayer and on April 15, 1978 they were married. God blessed them with three children, Julene, Jeremy, and Janelle. They lived in Ryley, Daysland, Burdett and have spent the last twenty three years in Bow Island where Eleanor has touched the lives of those around her in the community and her church family. Eleanor worked at the Bank of Montreal for a while and then spent the majority of her time working in Environmental Services at the hospital and of course helping Walter out at the Hardware Store and then the Bottle Depot. Eleanor enjoyed spending time with family, especially camping, hiking and boating. She loved watching sports whether it was her kids playing or her favorite hockey team, the Edmonton Oilers or favorite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays. She also enjoyed serving others, always trying to meet the needs around her. She was greatly loved and will be missed but her family takes comfort in knowing they will see her again. Thank you to all of the family, friends and community who helped care for her and her family in her fight against cancer.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Evangelical Free Church, 214 - 4 Avenue West, Bow Island on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
