HELEN POMMEN
1924 - 2005
Magdalena "Helen" Pommen (nee Kappel), beloved wife of Mr. Harvey Albert Pommen of Lethbridge, formerly of Taber, passed away at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Sunday, February 27, 2005 at the age of 80 years.
Helen was born July 18, 1924, in Sokolovac, Yugoslavia, to Johann and Franciska Kappel. Following WWII, Helen emigrated from Yugoslavia to Canada where she met and married Harvey Pommen. They were married 50 years. Together, they farmed and raised their family in Taber. They moved to Lethbridge in 1993 where they continued to reside until Helen's passing. Her passions were cooking, gardening and anything involving her family. She loved to give and do for others and was happiest when she could put a smile on your face asking for nothing in return. Those of us who knew her will miss her greatly and are thankful for having the opportunity to know and love her. Helen was the youngest of six children and spoke lovingly of her parents, four sisters and one brother.
She was predeceased by her parents, Johann and Franciska, her brother Wilhelm and her sisters Katherine Sitter, Anna Hanik and Theresia Kovacs. She is survived by her husband Harvey Pommen, her sister Mary Babranyi of Taber, her three children Allen (Marjorie) Pommen of Vegreville and their children Brad (Heather) and Kimberley; David (Suzanna) Pommen of Cranford and their daughters Shawna and Sarah; Nola (Lonny) Mackenzie-Grieve of Lethbridge and their children Keona and James; nieces Mary Lazar of Lethbridge, Veronica (John) Hakstol of Leduc and nephews Frank (Rose) Sitter of Taber and Joe (Marie) Kodie of Edmonton; brothers and sisters-in-law Bill of Calgary, Ed of Lethbridge, Marge of Kelowna, B.C. and Helen of Australia and their families and special friend and neighbour Margaret Wells. She will also be missed by her furry companions Smokey and Lucy.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006-48 Ave. Taber on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at Knox United Church, 4929-50 Ave., Taber on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Janice (McCloskey) Walls officiating. Interment to follow in the Taber Memorial Garden.
