HILDA PICKLES
1911 - 2008
Brigadier Hilda Margaret Pickles of Vauxhall was promoted to glory on Friday, February 22, 2008 at the age of 96 years.
Hilda is survived by her sister Vera Kemble of Peterborough, Ontario; nieces Barbara Roth of Calgary, Beverly (Dan) Fear of Cremona; nephew Donald (Mercedes) Ross of Peace River as well as numerous other relatives
She was predeceased by her parents Matthew and Janet Pickles; four sisters and one brother.
Hilda was born October 12, 1911 in Liverpool, England. She immigrated with her family to Canada in 1914. It was during this time while travelling to Canada that the war was declared. Hilda went into service with the Salvation Army in 1932 and served in Kingston, Jamaica; Bombay, India and Nyrobi, Kenya. After Forty years of service with the Salvation Army, she retired to Canada in 1972 settling in Vauxhall with her father and sister Janet Ross. She resided in Vauxhall until 2006 when she moved to the Clearview Lodge in Taber. Hilda devoted her life to serving others and was always putting the needs of others first.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Majors Brian and Edith Beveridge of the Salvation Army, Lethbridge Community Church officiating. Burial to follow at the Hillside Cemetery, Medicine Hat at 2:30 P.M.
