Jim was born to John and Mary Nachay, at the Taber Hospital on June 16, 1939. He was raised approximately two miles north of Barnwell on Huckleberry Road, at the family farm. This is where he learned his love of farming, which would continue for the rest of his life. Jim went to school and played hockey, with a lot of his life long friends in Barnwell. Jim married Ella Lowen of Coaldale February 1, 1960 and made their first home in Edmonton, where he did various jobs. Their first two children, Gail and Darrel were born in Edmonton and then in 1965 they moved back to Southern Alberta where Brenda was born. Jim returned to Lethbridge where he began employment with Beny’s Chev Olds. Jim worked many years for Beny’s before purchasing a farm in Cranford, Alberta in 1972. It was during this time that he returned to what he loved most, cattle and farming. In 1977 Jim and Ella purchased Automart in Taber and then in 1981, started Automart in Bow Island. Jim was a farmer/businessman for the rest of his life. He was a real “people person” and met many people through the Automart’s. To him, this was the best part of business!
