ORMAND MITCHELL
1918 - 2004
Ormand George Mitchell, resident of Pleasant View Lodge, Bow Island, beloved husband of the late Irene Mitchell, passed away quietly, at the age of 85 on Thursday, March 25, 2004, after a brief illness.
Ormand was born at Lethbridge, Alberta on September 10, 1918, to parents George and Muriel (Neidig) Mitchell. He was raised on the family farm south of Bow Island and received his schooling in the country schools in the Bow Island areas. He met and married Irene Violet Mae LaVenne. He farmed his entire life south of Bow Island and was active in many aspects of community life. He belonged to the Lions Club, the Bow Island Curling Club, the I.O.O.F., the Bow Island Golden Age Club and was a former steward of St. Andrew's United Church. Ormand enjoyed fishing, curling and shuffleboard and in his retirement years spent many enjoyable winters in Arizona. "Orm" wasn't a large man, but he had a big heart and left a big impression on all who knew him. He loved to travel and meet people and collected many life-long friends wherever he went. He will be sadly missed.
Ormand will be forever remembered by his four children Carolyn (Al) Janzen of Lethbridge, Brian of Coaldale, Bernice (Allan) Feuerbach of Kamloops, B.C. and Loren (Susan) of Brooks; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. He is also survived by a sister Verna Venables of Sun City, Arizona.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Irene, infant grandson David Mitchell and brother Ralph Mitchell.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew's United Church, 139-2 Ave. West, Bow Island on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Sandra McMillan officiating. Interment will follow in the Bow Island Cemetery.
Those wishing, are invited to pay their respects from 1:00 to 1:45 P.M. at the church prior to the service.
