CLIFF MEIER

1966 - 2008

Clifford Wesley Meier of Youngstown, beloved father of Colter, Quintin and Keaton, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the age of 42 years.
Cliff was born in Taber on January 30, 1966 to John and Frances Meier. He was the forth eldest of six children and was raised in Hays. Cliff graduated from Vauxhall High School in 1983. His love of ranching began as a small child while doing chores with his dad back home on the farm. As a teenager, Cliff began steer riding with the Chinook Rodeo circuit. He loved the rodeo and went on to compete in bull riding, also joining the Alberta High School Rodeo Association. His love for rodeo never ended when he hung up his ropes. Cliff left home and went to work for Stan Weatherly with Big Country Rodeo where he hauled stock to the rodeos and took care of the rodeo bulls and broncs. He married Leanne and moved to Vauxhall where he purchased a 1990 Peterbilt, began his own business and contracted to Lonesome Lake Gravel. He was a member of the Vauxhall Legion as well as a member of the Vauxhall Fire & Ambulance. Cliff loved small town life and was very active in his community.
In 2003, Cliff moved back to Youngstown, ranch country; this was his home. He worked with and managed the ranch operation with Dave & Jay Galarneau for ten years up until the time of his passing. His strong work ethic and his livestock and equipment knowledge were surpassed by none. He was president of the Spondin Agriculture Society. Cliff could always be counted on, giving 110% no matter what the task be, large or small. With his ready laugh, strong handshake and quick wit, he made friends wherever he went. His nieces and nephews loved to be around him and held him in high respect and admiration, as did so many of us.
Cliff was a loving father, his kids were his world. He was the best dad any child could have asked for. He shared his love of ranch life with his children as they loved helping with chores and being with their dad.
Cliff will be sadly missed by so many and he will live forever in our hearts.
Cliff is survived by his sons Colter and Quintin; his daughter Keaton and their mother Leanne.  He is also survived by his girlfriend Marlene Derr of Stettler; father John and stepmother Betty of Taber; sister Bernadine (Ray) Leech of Medicine Hat and their children Jennifer and Jared; brother Jim (Susan) of Taber and their children Ryan (Noel and Tate), Travis, Clinton, Tianna; sister Cynthia (Clarence) Holthe of Turin and their children Damaris, Melodie, Curtis and Calvin; brother Ed (Tammy) of Taber and their children Justin and Tyson; sister Kim (Greg) Forchuk of Taber and their children Brett and Taylor; stepsister Mary (Gerry) and their daughter Amber.
