MARY LEDENE
1917 - 2005
Mrs. Mary Ledene of Taber, beloved wife of the late Mr. Rueben Ledene, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2005 at the age of 88 years.
Mary was born February 15, 1917 in Turin, Alberta to Carl & Marie Johnson. In 1919 the Johnson family moved to Enchant where she received her schooling. In 1928, Mary, along with her family traveled to Norway where they spent four months together. Following her school years, Mary worked for the Martin family at the Scandia store before she married Reuben in Medicine Hat on October 14, 1939. Together they settled in Scandia, later moving to Vauxhall in 1962 and Taber in 1996. During their time in Vauxhall, Mary enjoyed working at the drug store for twenty-two years, was a member of the Senior's Centre, and a lifetime member of the Evangelical Free Church. Mary enjoyed softball, curling and was an avid fisherman. She loved to sing with friends, skate and took great pride in her flower gardens. She enjoyed going on yearly campouts and attended parties with their group of fourteen friends who were all married in 1939, a group better known as the "39'ers". Following Reuben's death in 1998, Mary lived with her daughter and son-in-law Jeanelle & Ray for a year until her move to Continuing Care where she resided until her passing.
Mary is survived by her son Gerry (Donalda) Ledene of Strathmore and their children Ross (Kristen Belanger) and Heather; her daughter Jeanelle (Ray) Bryant of Taber and their children Chad (Nicole) and Carrie; and by her daughter Wendy McLeod of Vancouver, B.C. Mary will also be fondly remembered by her special great-grandaughter Kiara Jensen who held a very dear place in Nana's heart. She is also survived by five sisters-in-law Joye Johnson, Jo Johnson, Naomi Ledene, Delores (Art) Borchers and Eva Ledene as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Reuben on September 5, 1998.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Harry Ruggles and Mr. Vern Beck officiating. Interment to follow at the Vauxhall Cemetery.
