He was predeceased by his father Reg Plumb and father-in-law Butch Egeland.
Cody was born in Calgary, to proud parents Reg and Gail Plumb. He was their pride and joy. As he grew up, they delighted in watching him play hockey, compete in swimming, golf and travel to places like Hawaii, Australia, England, California and Florida. He attended school in Nanton and Claresholm, where he made lifelong friends.
After graduating high school, Cody worked at a Christmas tree farm in British Columbia, saving money to attend college in Lethbridge. There, he enrolled in the Agriculture Technology Beef Production program, beginning his lifelong pursuit of living and learning the cowboy life. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Tami Egeland, along with many friends who remained part of his life. Cody naturally surrounded himself with mentors and people who shared his passion for the western lifestyle.
His cowboy journey truly began at OneFour Research Station, followed by work at Lost Lake Feedlot, Haney Farms, Badlands Grazing and Purple Springs Grazing. In 2001, Cody and Tami were married, and together they built a beautiful life with their two children, Chase and Torynn. In 2005, they moved to Circle E Grazing, where Cody continued his work and created a home full of love and adventure. He often reminded those around him that "there's better days a comin'," and that "God hates a coward’, words he lived by with grit, courage and optimism.
Cody devoted himself to becoming a true horseman. His journey with horses shaped him deeply, it was a relationship built from the inside out, horse to rider and back again. One of his favorite pieces of advice, "Ride your horse!" summed up both his approach to horsemanship and to life. Stay steady, trust yourself and keep moving forward. His way with both horses and people was rare and remarkable.
Cody’s infectious laugh was unmistakable, full of life, easy to recognize and impossible not to join in with. It lit up every gathering and left memories that will echo in the hearts of all who knew him.
To his children, Cody was a mentor, a coach and a guide. Chase and Torynn remember their father for his hard work ethic, his mentoring spirit and his gentle but tough approach. Whether it was coaching hockey, riding, roping, rodeo, or raising champion 4-H animals, Cody taught them not just skills, but how to live with heart, and how to have fun doing it. Throughout his life, Cody collected many incredible friends, each one held a special place in his heart. He leaves behind countless memories, countless laughs, and a hole that can never be filled. Ride easy across the river Cody, they are waiting for you on the other side.
