Elizabeth Hirch, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the age of 93 years, surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with dementia.

The Funeral Service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.

Elizabeth is survived by her children Roy Hirch of Magrath, Brenda Renner of Lethbridge, Mark (Gill) Hirch of Taber; grandchildren Dannielle Renner (James Lazaruk), Mackenzie (Chance) Jensen, Kyler (Kyla) Hirch, Amanda Hirch and Morgan Hirch (Riley Fouillard); great grandchildren Harlynn and Journee Lazaruk, Maple Elizabeth and Ziggy Jensen, Colson Alfred Alan Hirch.

She was predeceased by her husband Alfred in 2016.

Elizabeth was born in 1931 in Fachrie, Romania. She came to Canada looking for adventure, opportunity and a better life. In Canada she met Alfred and they were married in 1955. Together they bought farm land south of Taber and their life adventure began. They worked incredibly hard side by side and made many sacrifices for their dream. Elizabeth would help Alfred in the field, run home to do chores, get the kids ready for school, make lunch and then head back out to the field to help Alfred. Together they built a very successful farming operation – a legacy for their children.

Elizabeth’s first love was always Alfred and their family. She always said she wanted a “house full of kids” however she was only able to have three but she said “they were three good ones”. Elizabeth was modest and humble. She had a joyful and fun-loving personality and her favorite color was red. She also loved to sing and dance and was part of her church choir for many years. Farm life lent itself well to Elizabeth’s love for animals and she had many pets on the farm including her chickens and peacocks. Elizabeth was blessed with creativity. She loved to knit, crochet, sew and experiment with almost any craft imaginable. Gardening was her passion. Her rock garden was filled with amazing perennials, flowering shrubs, hostas and succulents. Elizabeth enjoyed trying new varieties of every vegetable as well as numerous fruit trees. She was always very proud of the results and always more than willing to share with family and neighbors.

Elizabeth always made time for her grandchildren whom she adored and brought her great joy. In the more recent years she enjoyed her visits with her great grandchildren. She loved their smiles and giggles, their games and antics, the art work they would bring and their many hugs and kisses.

Elizabeth was a kind and loving wife, mother and Oma. She was generous and her heart was overflowing with love and compassion. As she was preparing to leave she called Alfred’s name and peacefully made her way to reunite with him. Mom (Oma) will be dearly missed.

A very special thank you to all the amazing staff at St. Michael’s Health Center in Lethbridge for all the care and kindness over the years.
