Douwe Huizing

1960 - 2024

Douwe Wendelinus Huizing, beloved husband of Sandra Huizing, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at the age of 64 years.

A private burial service was held at the Burdett Cemetery prior to the funeral service on Friday, June 28, 2024.

The Funeral Service was held at the Christian Community Church, 415 - 4 Avenue, Burdett on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 11:00 A.M.

Douwe will be remembered by his wife Sandra, his children Tanner Ulrich, Amanda (Cody) Liske and Alies Huizing. He is also survived by his brothers Henry (Janelle) Huizing and their sons Brant (Tavia) Huizing and Stefan Huizing; John (Teresa) Huizing and their sons Jordan (Shay) Huizing, Dylan Huizing and Dane (Taiah) Huizing. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended family in the Netherlands.

Douwe was born the second of three children in Nieuw Weerdinge, The Netherlands on May 2, 1960. Shortly after completing agriculture college in the Netherlands, he moved to Canada on an exchange program when he was nineteen. It didn’t take long for him to decide that Canada would be his new home. He started his new life in Canada in British Columbia working on a farm and later moved to Alberta. Douwe chose to move to Oregon in 1987 where he started his first dairy farm. After milking cows in Oregon for seven years, he made the move back to Canada and settled north of Burdett and started a dairy farm where his children will continue his legacy.

Douwe married Sandra in January of 2001. He not only gained a wife that day, but also two children, Tanner and Amanda, that he would raise as his own. In October of 2001, their daughter Alies was born. This was the happiest day of his life. Douwe loved being a dad. He always said having kids makes your life complete. He taught his kids many life lessons that will guide them as they live their own lives.

Douwe was a great friend and father and was loved by many. He also enjoyed wood working in the winter, taking pictures and taking drives to explore the countryside.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Douwe’s name may be made directly to a charity of one’s choice.
