1939 - 2024
Cornelis Josephus Braat, beloved husband of Katie Braat, passed away peacefully in Bow Island on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the age of 85 years.
Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 1113 - 1 Street East, Bow Island on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 6:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 1113 - 1 Street East, Bow Island on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11:30 A.M. A private burial followed at the Bow Island Cemetery.
Case is survived by his wife Katie and their children David Braat of Calgary, Monica Braat of Medicine Hat, Frank (Allison) Braat of Winnipeg and Mike Braat of Bow Island; grandpa to Mikey, Makaya and Joshua. He is also survived by his twin brother Fritz (Lisa) Braat; sister Ann (Hank) Koot; sisters-in-law Mildred Braat and Shirley Braat as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents Jacobus and Johanna Braat; brothers John (Bep) Braat, Morris (Jane) Braat, Peter Braat, Jake (Beth) Braat and Gerry Braat; sister Joanne Braat.
Born in Schijf, Holland on January 1, 1939, Case immigrated with his family to southern Alberta in 1953. He married Katie Van Laerhoven on April 13, 1966, and they shared over fifty eight wonderful years together. Case began farming in Coaldale and moved to Bow Island with Katie and their family in 1974, continuing to farm until his retirement in 1995.
Case lived a full and active life, enjoying camping and skiing with his growing family, as well as golfing, spending winters in Arizona, and participating in activities at the Golden Age Centre during his retirement.
