Ruby Gessner

1934 - 2024

Ruby Arlene Gessner, beloved wife of the late Art Gessner, passed away in Taber on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the age of 89 years.

The Funeral Service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 2:30 P.M. 

Ruby will be missed and forever remembered in the hearts of her children Debbie (Frank) Covelli of Aurora, Ontario, John (Janelle) Gessner of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Carol (Mike) Mueller of Guelph, Ontario and Linda (Pat) Kavanagh of Taber. She will also be fondly remembered by her eleven grandchildren Trevor and Marc (André); Janine, Bryce (Linda) and Brent; Rebecca (Chris); Kristen (Dave); Ryan; Chris (Joni); Stephanie (Julian); Jason (Desirae). Her legacy will be carried on by her twenty four great grandchildren Thea, Rhys and Lena; Cora, Josephine, Verity, Leona, Otto and Gwendolyn; Sophie and Hudson; Jackson and Olivia; Aedyn and Rose; Ronan, Bennett and Cayden; Caitlin, Mikayla, Riker and Nova; Lennon and Sadie.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Art Gessner and her son Russell Gessner; her parents Ole and Cora Adams, her brother Arne Adams and sister Arlene Aupperle and her husband Jack. She was also predeceased by Art’s family including his parents, John and Kay Gessner and his brother Allen Gessner.

Ruby spent her early years on the family farm and it was there that she developed her incredible work ethic. She was a dedicated student, store clerk at the Strasbourg General Store and she also assisted in the operation of the family maternity home. There she found her passion for nursing and worked as a psychiatric nurse.

Along with Art, the love of her life, they raised a family filled with love, laughter, and commitment.

Ruby was the heart of the home. The household was a busy one with five children and Ruby was immersed with helping her children, organizing their schedules, assisting with homework, baking homemade buns and special treats and teaching them values.

As the family grew to include grandchildren and great grandchildren, Ruby was involved their lives. She never forgot a birthday, made their visits extra special and she kept every card letter and drawing sent to her.

Ruby and Art married in 1953 and shared an enduring love. Together they raised a family and their bond became stronger during several cross country moves. They shared many of the same interests. Ruby always kept busy with baking and creating great meals. Her love of reading gave her many hours of enjoyment.

Ruby will be deeply missed by her family and friends. “We take comfort knowing that she is reunited with the love of her life, Art.”
