RUSSELL BACON
1920 - 2006
Mr. Russell Vernon Bacon of Taber, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Daryl Bacon, passed away in Lethbridge on Saturday, June 3, 2006 at the age of 85 years.
Russell was born at home on the family farm, near Parkbeg, Saskatchewan on December 19, 1920. Russell served in the RCAF during World War II. He trained in Montreal and was stationed at Summerside, P.E.I. On August 26, 1943, he married Janet Daryl McLachlan at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Following the war they came to Alberta where they lived at Scandia and Brooks before settling at Hays in 1953. During that same year, they welcomed the birth of their daughter Deborah. Many years were spent farming before moving to Taber in 1973. Russell’s favorite pastime was working with his hands whether it was with wood or something mechanical. He was a caretaker at Harmony Home, worked at the Golf course and sold real estate. Russell was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Taber Lions Club. He loved dancing, golfing, curling, bowling and playing cards.
Russell is survived by his daughter Deborah Bacon of Frankfurt, Germany; a sister Lola (Warren) Erickson of Arizona; brother-in-law Nick Carter of Moose Jaw; sister-in-law Ginger Bacon of Hawaii and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Daryl in March 2006, a sister Olive Carter, brothers Gordon Bacon and Bruce Bacon and sister-in-law Betty Bacon.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Friday, June 9, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Jim Lochhead officiating.
