Doris Campbell
1924 - 2023
Doris May Campbell, beloved wife of the late Wyman Campbell, passed away in Bow Island on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at the age of 98 years.
A private burial service was held at the Burdett Cemetery prior to the funeral service on Saturday, March 25, 2023.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Andrew's United Church, 139 - 2 Avenue West, Bow Island on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 2:00 P.M.
Doris is survived by her children Dale (Gloria) Campbell of Sylvan Lake, Cheryl Ell of Burdett, Howard (Heather) Campbell of Burdett, Glen Campbell of Bow Island and Craig Campbell of Burdett; nine grandchildren Scott (Tania) Campbell, Steven (Taran) Campbell, Kristian Ell, Michael Ell (Michelle), Taylor Campbell, Jordan Campbell (Robyn), Kristin (Aaron) Sturgeon, Erin Campbell (Wes) and Matt Campbell (Armi). She is also survived by her great grandchildren Jacob, Abbey, Karter and Tyce Campbell; Ruby and Mira Sturgeon; Lucas Blades; Ethan, Emmett, Lyla and Sadie Ell; James Ryan Campbell. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Bernese Lewis, June Parker and Marilyn Bell; sister-in-law Carol Campbell and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Wyman Campbell; her parents Dora and John Hillman; sisters Shana, Joey and Evelyn; brothers Clifford and Elmer Hillman,; son-in-law Daryl Ell and daughter-in-law Bonnie Campbell.
Doris was born on September 10, 1924 in Evarts, Alberta. She received her schooling in Evarts and later took nursing at the Calgary General Hospital, graduating as an RN in 1946. She nursed in the lnnisfail, Calgary, Bow Island and Taber general hospitals, retiring in 1990 wearing her full nursing uniform to the very last day. She met Wyman and they were married on January 7, 1950. During her career, she helped Wyman on the family farm while nursing part time, raising five children and provided a huge garden and canning preserves for the family. She canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society, The Blind, was a member of the Alberta Women's Institute, Royal Purple and held a position on the Burdett Hall Board.
Upon retiring to Burdett, Doris enjoyed gardening and growing several kinds of flowers. Her speciality being roses until such time that she moved to Pleasant View Lodge where her roses were given out to the residents there. While at the Pleasant View Lodge she lovingly continued her sewing of blue jean quilts and bags, knitting shawls and crocheting afghans. She made them for her family, friends, upon request and as well as donated them to charities and local organizations.
