TONY JANSEN
1929 - 2008
Antonius “Tony” Jansen, beloved husband of the late Kay Jansen, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the age of 78 years.
Tony was born in Holland on the 10th day of the 10th month of 1929, the 10th child in a family of fourteen children. Tony immigrated to Canada in 1953 seeking a better life. On November 24, 1956 he married the love of his life, Catherina “Kay” Vanden Dungen in Picture Butte. Tony and Kay began raising their six children in Calgary where Tony worked at the Burns meat plant. In 1971, Tony followed his dream and bought the family farm east of Vauxhall where they raised the kids and the crops until 1995. When Tony and Kay retired they moved to Taber and focused on smaller harvests from their garden which they grew for the love of sharing with others. Tony loved the great outdoors, a regular cup of coffee, and his church. He lived by the motto – Work hard and treat people fairly.
Tony is survived by his children Maria (Garry) Hoard of Calgary, Francis (Laurie) Jansen of Barnwell and Pete (Chantal) Jansen of Crescent Valley, British Columbia; son-in-law Rod Unruh of Vauxhall; grandchildren Chad Jansen, Tammy Jansen, Jenny (Brad) Klassen, Leslie Unruh, Anthony (Kerri) Unruh, Melissa Hoard, Nicole (Clayton) Baier, Trevor Hoard, Ashley (Chad) Hansen, Ty Jensen, Mackenzie Jansen, Emma Jansen and Sophie Jansen; great grandchildren Dominick Belhumeur, Kayla Unruh, Hailey Klassen, Addison Klassen, Alexis Baier and Joel Hansen.
He was predeceased by his wife Kay; sons Robert and Adrian; daughter Deeny Unruh; parents Robertus and Huberdina Jansen.
Relatives and friends are invited for Prayers at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Taber on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 11:30 A.M. with Reverend Mariusz Sztuk SDS Celebrant. Burial to follow at the Vauxhall Cemetery.
