RON JOHNSON

1924 - 2008

Ronald Stewart Johnson, beloved husband of Syb Johnson of Barnwell, passed away in Taber on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the age of 84 years.
Besides his loving wife Syb, he is survived by his children Sandra (Brian) Atkins of Edmonton, Hollis (Don) Ehman of Edmonton, Brooke (Josie) Johnson of Ross Haven, Alberta, Marty (Carolyn) Johnson of Barnwell and Tammy Johnson of Lethbridge; thirty two grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; in-laws Bessie Johnson, Lila Johnson and Wilford Hansen.
Ronald was born in Barnwell on July 23, 1924. He was the sole survivor of his parents Wilbern S. and Amelia Shields Johnson and six siblings LaRea, Bill, Beatrice, Argyle, Delbert and Vada. Ronald and his family were one of the first pioneering families to settle in the Barnwell area. A huge love of his life was farming and ranching with his father W.S. Johnson and brothers. He enjoyed working with the land and had a real love for cattle and horses. Ronald and Syb also owned and operated the Gemco Machinery which gave Ron the opportunity to socialize with many Sugar Beet Growers. Ronald’s life was centered around service. He spent many years serving as a councilor in the MD of Taber and was heavily involved in the Barons Eureka Health Unit and Family Support Service. He enjoyed the opportunity to serve irregardless of time or convenience. He was an integral part of the Barnwell Community Band and the creation of the Barnwell Senior Center. He always had time for those in need and took time to visit with friends and strangers alike. Everyone was always welcome in their home. He loved to visit, dance and entertain. His greatest joy was his family and he leaves for us a legacy of love.
Relative and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, December 21, 2008 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and prior to the funeral service in the Relief Society Room of the Church from 12:30 P.M. to 1:40 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barnwell Chapel, on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Councilor Layne Johnson conducting. Burial to follow in the Barnwell Cemetery.
