She will also be missed by two special adopted families who called her “Grandma”, Line Gagne and her children Natasha, Chantelle, Sidney Rae and Zachary; Robina Morrisette and her daughter Stephanie Monsson. Lela is also survived by her sister-in-law Nina (Warren) Russell and their children Gayle, Bill, Jayne and David; by the children of her late brother Demar (Connie) Russell, Sandra and Randy; children of Sylvan (Annie) Jensen, Connie, Patti and Richard.
She was predeceased by her husband Golden; parents William “Bill” and Harriet “Hattie” (nee Collett) Russell; siblings William “Billy”, Demar, Warren and Nora; sisters-in-law Connie Russell and Lucille Dodson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Sylvan and Annie Jensen and their children Gary, Sylvia and Jerome; nephew Charlie Russell; grandchildren Cameron and Karin Bland.
Lela was born in Taber and raised on the family farm at Fincastle. She attended Reliance School which was just across the road from their farm home and completed grade nine. Lela talked very fondly of her school days as well as the social activities they attended at school. When she and Golden were married they made their home on their farmstead situated between their parents, where they lived contentedly until selling the farm and moving into Taber in 1973. Lela enjoyed living in town more than she did farm life. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and did many years of service in the primary and as a visiting teacher. Lela was known by all for her compassion and love as she cared for many family and extended family members during times of illness and bereavement. Her life on this earth was a life of service to others. She worked with “Meals on Wheels” for ten years and made many friends doing this service, as she would not only deliver the meals but would spend time with each of these lonely people each day. She loved her extended family dearly and was often on the phone talking to a cousin, niece or nephew as well as her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and many friends. Lela was proud of her Irish heritage and always had this Irish Blessing visible in her home (it also says a lot about the kind of person she was).

May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And the rains fall soft upon your fields
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
