Jay was born in Waltmein, Saskatchewan on April 6, 1938. He moved with his family to Steinbach, Manitoba where he attended school for a few years. He later lived in McMahon, Saskatchewan and other communities throughout Saskatchewan. He eventually moved to British Columbia, settling in the Summerland area, the place he loved. Jay would again return to Saskatchewan and worked in a garage where he started his mechanical career. He relocated to Alberta where he worked as a mechanic and obtained his welding certificate. Over the years, Jay worked across Canada, including in Princeton, British Columbia, Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Whitehorse, Yukon, Fort Saskatchewan, Taber, Manyberries, Monarch and St. John’s, Newfoundland. He also spent thirteen winters in Nicaragua, volunteering for various projects. These included electrical wiring, water projects and construction, which were prioritized by Father Denise, who lived there. Jay acted as an interpreter for a dental team from Alberta that would go to Nicaragua to provide their services to the poor. He lived in Monarch for a number of years where he enjoyed sharing coffee and stories with friends and where he enjoyed his yard, including his flowers. Jay’s all time enjoyment was gopher hunting with his cousin Frank and brother Hank at the Gary Polson ranch. He liked the wide open prairie of the Manyberries area, where he spent some time camping. For the last year, Jay has resided in Lethbridge enjoying weiner roasts in the back yard, greeting people walking by and sharing a meal with friends. He had a great sense of humour and tried to get along with everyone. He will be dearly missed.
