Clarence Wentz

1933 - 2022

Clarence “Charlie” Duane Wentz, born into the light of the long sun of Taber on November 13, 1933, passed away from complications after having a stroke on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the age of 88 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 7:00 P.M.

The Funeral Service was held at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. A private burial will take place at the Taber Memorial Garden.

Charlie is survived by Helen, his wife of almost sixty six years and their four children Ken (Shannon) Wentz of Calgary, Rick (Carolee) Wentz of Taber, Michelle (Fred) DeGroot of Lethbridge and Dana Bell of Taber; ten grandchildren Bryce (Ashley), Erik, Logan, Brooke, Jackson (Shari), Auston, Amara (Travis), Devon, Quinlyn and Charley; two great granddaughters Makinley and Lynden.

He was predeceased by his parents and eleven older brothers and sisters.

Family was the most important thing to him. He loved their vacation home in Whitefish, Montana and hosted many family and friends there. Those who knew him, rarely saw him without a golf club in his hand and a smile on his face. While the tee times and cigars grew more rare his smile never faltered, nor did his quick wit and irreverent sense of humour. Raised in this small town, he met his bride, raised a family and taught generations of students in his role as teacher and then principal. Upon retirement he became an Alberta Justice of the Peace for the Taber Police Service and Taber/Vauxhall RCMP. His athletic abilities were showcased on the track, baseball field, hockey rink and golf course. Charlie will be forever remembered as an honorable man (even on the golf course), a forgiving father, a loving husband and a close friend to many. His unconditional love was spread among all. Charlie was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion and an integral board member of the Taber Hospital board. Of his numerous quotes and odd family sayings, one that may stick most will be, “I’m only afraid of two things in this life, God and my wife, and not necessarily in that order.” His strong Catholic upbringing and devout religious belief makes his passing easier knowing he will be well received and welcome for that first tee time on any course of his choosing. There are many dogs waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge. He will be dearly missed by many and fondly remembered by even more.
