ALICE BEKKERING
1918 - 2006
The Lord is my light and my salvation. Psalm 27:1
Hilligje “Alice” Bekkering, beloved wife of the late Hendrik Bekkering, of Taber, passed away peacefully at the Taber Hospital after a brief illness on Saturday, September 2, 2006 at the age of 87 years.
Alice is survived by her children Henry (Hessina), Jenny (Fred) Schuld, Grace DeVries, Gerda Greidanus, Garth (Wilma), John (Helen), Hank (Wilma), Simon (Joanne), Elzo (Kim), Alice (John) Steenhof, Angeline (Andy) Glasbergen, Harry (Denise), Irene (Rod) Aspden; fifty-two grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Hendrik February 8, 1983, two sons-in-law Ted DeVries and Norman Greidanus and by two grandsons Rick and Christopher Bekkering.
Mom was born in Drente, The Netherlands on December 27, 1918, the second child of Gerrit & Jantje Schonewille. She was one of sixteen children, of whom four are still living. Mom married Hendrik Bekkering on April 27, 1939 and they were blessed with thirteen children. Mom, Dad and all the children immigrated to Canada in May of 1959. After a year in Iron Springs, the whole family moved to Taber in 1960. Mom and Dad purchased a farm in 1964 and they spent many happy years together on the farm. They moved to town where they enjoyed their retirement. After Dad passed away in 1983, Mom spent quite a bit of time traveling the world visiting her children and grandchildren. She thoroughly loved traveling and family meant everything to her. She had plenty of love to give to her large family. Mom was truly a Christian in word and deed. We as a family will miss her deeply, but we know she is with her Lord and Saviour.
A private family graveside service will precede the service on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at the Taber Memorial Garden.
The Funeral Service will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church, 3902 Heritage Drive, Taber on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend John Huizinga of the Maranatha Christian Reformed Church in Lethbridge, officiating.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Alice’s name may be made directly to Rehoboth Christian Ministries (An association serving people with developmental disabilities), P.O. Box 1312, Coaldale, Alberta T1M 1N1.
