Ruth Drotar
1943 - 2011
It is with a great sense of loss and sadness, that we announce the passing of Ruth Gwendolyn Drotar on Monday, May 16, 2011, following a brave battle with cancer.
She continues to be a guiding light and inspiration to her husband Ed, her daughter Dorothy (Randy) Hart and sons Greg and Russell (Tabitha) as well as to her granddaughters Shannon Hart and Lauren Hart.
She was predeceased by her son Anthony, sister Mable and brothers James and is survived by her sister Isabel, brother Robert and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth enjoyed nothing more than the company of friends and family, and the family was all blessed to gather together to celebrate her fiftiethwedding anniversary to her beloved husband on April 15, 2011. Ruth and Ed spent over thirty years farming in the Taber area.
Her love of the prairies was eternal and even upon retiring to Mabel Lake in the North Okanagan where they have had a residence for thirty seven years, she longed for the open fields and blue skies of Alberta. They would spend their days tending to the property, caring for the flowers and sharing their sense of humor and wit with friends who would stop by. One of their greatest pleasures was salmon fishing and Ruth won the Mabel Lake Fishing Derby a few years back with a chinook salmon whose weight still stands as the heaviest to have been recorded as an entry.
Winter months were spent in Arizona where they made many new friends and enjoyed trips to Mexico.
A private service was held in her honour.
Her beautiful brown eyes will live on through her donation to the Vancouver Eye Bank.
