Ed Drotar
1940 - 2022
It is with a great sense of loss and sadness, that the family of J. Edward Drotar announce his passing in Taber on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the age of 81 years following a bout with cancer.
A private service was held in Ed’s honour with his family in attendance.
His spirit lives on through his daughter Dorothy (Randy) Hart of Taber, his sons Greg Drotar of Barnwell and Russell (Tabitha) Drotar of Winnipeg and his granddaughters Lauren and Shannon Hart.
He was predeceased by his wife Ruth, son Anthony and his brother George (Teresa).
Ed was born in Taber on September 24, 1940. As a young man, he ventured to Calgary where he met Ruth Ferguson, the love of his life. They were married in 1961 and shortly afterward returned to the Taber area where they farmed for the next thirty years.
In 1975 they purchased a cabin at Mabel Lake in the North Okanagan of British Columbia and would spend summers vacationing there. Ed and Ruth enjoyed boating and fishing and the serenity of the landscape of their cabin. They made it their permanent residence after retiring in 2000. After forty seven years, the cabin remains in the family and will continue to serve as a place for celebration and reflection of their lives together.
Ed and Ruth also spent fifteen years traveling to Arizona during the winter months and enjoyed making new friends, visiting historical sites and taking day trips to Mexico.
