Besides Jill, his cherished wife of fifty five years, Ken is survived by their children Bryan (Lesley) Bernhart of Lethbridge, Corrine (Gary) Thorsteinson of Red Deer and grandchildren Margo, Rachel and Myles. His family takes solace in knowing he was lovingly welcomed into heaven by his daughter Farrah, who predeceased him in 2012. Also mourning his loss are his brother Bob (Leota) Bernhart and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

He was also predeceased by his parents Matt and Mary Bernhart, brother Ted Bernhart and sister-in-law Ethel Bernhart, father-in-law and mother-in-law Nick and Ellis Velker and brother-in-law Jack Velker.

Ken was born in 1938, the second son of Matt and Mary Bernhart. He grew up on the family farm north of Foremost and later moved to town. He was a long serving employee of the Village of Foremost until his retirement in 1998. In his retirement, Ken enjoyed raising cattle. Throughout his life, he found great joy in tending to his garden and many friends and family were the recipients of the delicious fruits of his labour. Ken was a dependable friend to so many. Always willing to lend a hand or an ear, he was never judgmental and accepted and appreciated others for who they were. His greatest pride was his family. He and Jill married in 1966 and raised their three children in Foremost. Being grandpa to his three precious grandchildren was a highlight of his later years. He and Jill enjoyed socializing with many close friends in the community.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Ken’s name may be made directly to the Foremost Ambulance Service, in care of the Village of Foremost, Box 159, Foremost, Alberta T0K 0X0.
