NORMA HASLAM
1914 - 2005
Mrs. Norma Ingeborg (Valgardson) Haslam, beloved wife of Mr. Van Haslam of Taber, passed away at the Taber Hospital on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at the age of 91 years.
Besides her loving husband Van, Norma will be remembered by her children Kent (Ann) of Nashville, Tennessee, Robert (Lydia) of Lethbridge, Bruce (Susan) of Mesa, Arizona, Patti (Jim) Fleming of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jerry (Wendy) of Taber and Jay (Shawna) of Airdrie; twenty-eight grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Thelma Rawsthorne of Calgary, LaRue Carter of Calgary, Howard (Torrie) Valgardson of Taber, Ethel (Bob) Stephenson of St. George, Utah, Ronald (Connie) Valgardson, Garry (Patti) Valgardson and sister-in-law Donna Valgardson, all of Taber.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Bill and two brothers-in-law, Cliff Rawsthorne and Alfred Carter.
Norma, of Icelandic heritage, was born in Taber March 7, 1914 to William & May Valgardson. She received her primary schooling in Taber and attended business college in Lethbridge followed by employment as a secretary for the sugar company in Picture Butte. Norma later attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah where she met Van. They were married in Los Angeles, California February 3, 1940 and lived in California and Utah before settling in Taber in 1946 where they have resided ever since. Norma was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a loving wife and mother, she devoted her life to taking care of her family and home and also enjoyed the association of many wonderful friends. An avid reader and gardener, she also loved painting with oils and water colours.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, March 13, 2005 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. and also at the church prior to the funeral service on Monday, March 14, 2005 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:45 A.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Monday, March 14, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Michael Saunders conducting. Interment to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
