ENGWALD HOUGEN
1919 - 2006
Engwald Hougen, beloved husband of Steva Hougen of Foremost, passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre on Thursday, November 30, 2006 at the age of 87 years.
Engwald was born in Stavanger, Norway on May 4, 1919 to Charles and Esther Hougen. He came to Canada in 1924 with his family and lived in many areas before finally settling in Foremost, Alberta. In 1942 he joined the R.C.A.F. as a flight engineer and after returning home, he continued to farm. In 1951 he married Steva Yizek and the following year was involved in a partnership known as Hougen Bros. Implements Ltd. They operated until 1975 at which time they sold the business and he returned to farming, this time with his sons. Engwald enjoyed hockey, curling, snowmobiling and golf and served on many community organizations. He also enjoyed holidays with family, especially his winter trips to Mesa, Arizona where it was warm and the golf was great. He looked forward to visits from his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Engwald saw the best in everyone. His church was very important to him. He lived what he believed even when his life changed in his later years, complaining was not his way. He always had a big smile and thanked God for life. His generosity, warmth and caring ways will be missed by all of us who knew and loved him.
Engwald is survived by his loving wife Steva of 55 years; his two children, five grandchildren and a great granddaughter; Darrell (Karen) and their children Shannon and Brandon; Frances (Ken) King and their children Rylan (Larei) and their daughter Vaera, Marnee (Trevor) and Lael. He is also survived by his brothers Magnus (Isabella), Arne (Delores), Charlie (Dolores) and Marvin (Pauline), a sister Myrtle Allison and sister-in-law Peggy Hougen and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a son Larry, brothers Trygve and Palmer and brother-in-law Stewart Allison and nephew Loren.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Foremost Community Hall, 104-3 Ave. East, Foremost, Alberta on Monday, December 4, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Gary Aicken officiating. Interment to follow in the Foremost Cemetery.
