Madeline Petkau

1947 - 2020

Madeline Petkau (nee Andruchuk) went to be with her Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 73 years on the afternoon of Monday, December 28, 2020 with her daughter and granddaughter nearby.

Madeline leaves behind many who will miss her and loved her dearly, including Carolyn Bueckert and her husband Jacob Bueckert whom she chose to live with since the passing of her husband Benjamin Petkau on October 22, 2019 (a short 14 months ago). Her granddaughter’s Jessie-Lynn and Elissa Bueckert lived just down the hall from their Nana and shared many good talks and games with her. Dallas Bueckert her only living grandson was blessed to spend much time with Nana many days out of the year, before he moved onto University in 2019. Besides her daughter Carolyn, she leaves behind her stepdaughters (adopted in the heart daughters) whom she helped raise, Debra Riva-Cambrin and Melissa Hartnett. She was blessed with her oldest granddaughter Chelsea Hartnett who gave Nana the opportunity to be a great grandmother to Vyla in 2018 and Xavier in 2020. Madeline also leaves behind her brothers Don (Darlene) Andruchuk, Nick (Christine) Andrushuk, Dennis (Elvira) Andrushuk and Gordy (Dorothy) Andrushak; sisters Elaine Hudyma, Dianne (Claude) Poirier and Theresa Cummer; sisters-in-law Norma (Joe) Coffey-Sorin and Jessie Prokopchuk; brother-in-law John (Marina) Petkau as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved and cherished.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Benjamin Petkau; parents Annie Boyko and Paul Andrushak; in-law’s Annie Fehr and Abram Petkau; sisters Olive Watling, Patricia Zrubak and Elizabeth Jarvie; brothers-in-law Brian Coffey, Abram Petkau and Mike Prokopchuk; son-in-law Edmund Hartnett and her first grandson Gabriel Riva-Cambrin.

Madeline grew up on a farm near Haywood and St. Claude, Manitoba. She became a Godly, loving sister, cousin, daughter, wife and mother largely due to her mom raising her with the Bible as her source of strength and teaching. In her late teens she moved to Alberta and spent most of her life in Devon, Alberta where she and her husband owned businesses together. After retirement Madeline and her husband moved to Bow Island in 2007 to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Although they loved Bow Island, due to health issues, in June of 2018, Madeline and her husband Ben moved to Warner, with their daughter and her family, eventually moving to Raymond in July 2020.

Madeline will always be remembered and missed for her wisdom and passion for Jesus Christ and sharing the Gospel with everyone and anyone who she met. Her talents of cooking, crocheting, helping make a house a home and anywhere she was needed proved to all who met her, the unending love Madeline had for God her Heavenly Father and all her family and friends.
