Colin Maruyama

1960 - 2020

Colin Keith Maruyama passed away in Lethbridge on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at the age of 60 years.

  As a result of the restrictions regarding COVID-19 and the government recommendations, a private funeral service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber on Friday, December 11, 2020. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.

 Colin is survived by his children Richelle (Scott) Tucker of Lethbridge and their children Brooklyn, Caleb, Seth, Levi and Elowen; Brendan (Page) Maruyama of Lethbridge and their children Jace, Ben and Max; brothers Dean (Lynn) Maruyama, Rod Maruyama and Derrick (Deanna) Maruyama. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Kim (Peter), Jordan (Carrie), Riley (Shannon), Michiko (Blake), Ren (Brad) and Scott as well as numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

 He was predeceased by his parents Genji “Gen” and Yaeko “Marge” 

Maruyama.

 Colin was born on Valentine's Day 1960 to Gen and Marge Maruyama. He grew up just outside of Taber with his brothers Dean, Rod, and Derrick, and spent his youth playing hockey and helping out on the family farm. Colin was hardworking and started an oilfield hot shot business in 1977, and continued to be business minded and ambitious throughout his thirty five years in the oilfield industry. 

 When his children were younger, Colin could often be found on the sidelines of the soccer field or hockey rink coaching and cheering his kids on. 

 Colin enjoyed golfing, fishing and getting together with his buddies for a beer. He was quite the connoisseur of seafood and Japanese food. He loved to travel to Mexico and spoke often of the people he met and memories he made there. 

Colin's pride and joy were his seven grandsons and one granddaughter, who happened to be born on his birthday this year. To their delight, grandpa always had a box of Timbits in tow when he came to visit. 

 Colin fought a short and courageous battle with cancer. He recently surrendered his life to the Lord Jesus, and we know he is enjoying his pain-free freedom in glory. 

 Colin was a kind, gentle soul who will be missed by many.
