MAC GRAVELLE
1922 - 2005
Magdalene Dorothy (Mac) Gravelle, passed away at St. Michael's Health Centre, Lethbridge, on Sunday, September 4, 2005 at the age of 83 years.
Mac was born in Bow Island, Alberta on July 15, 1922 to David and Magdalene Gaetz. She received her schooling in Bow Island and later moved to Edmonton. Mac married Armand Gravelle in 1947 and they had four children: David, Jerry, Dalene and Marcy. In 1954 she returned to Bow Island with her family to begin farming. For the past three years she has resided in Lethbridge, one year at Columbia Assisted Living and the last two years at St. Michael's Health Centre.
Mac is survived by her loving children: David (Cheryl) Gravelle of Bow Island, Jerry (Pat) Gravelle of Lethbridge, Dalene Gravelle (Don Hughes) of Duncan, B.C. and Marcy (Byron) Johnson of Calgary; six grandchildren: Erin (Jeff) Oakey, Mark Gravelle, Kurt Gravelle, Clark Gravelle, Molly Johnson and Grace Johnson. She is also survived by her nephew Gordon Maxwell of Edmonton.
She was predeceased by her parents, David and Magdalene Gaetz; sisters and brother, Mary Gaetz, Frank Gaetz, Emily Maxwell, Rose Gaetz and Edith Gaetz; grandson Ryan Gravelle; brother-in-law Don Maxwell and nephew Roger Maxwell.
Mac devoted her life to raising her children. She spent many hours at hockey rinks, figure skating events, piano lessons and swimming lessons. Mac was also a very active volunteer, contributing countless hours working for her community. In 1988 Mac received a Certificate of Merit in recognition of her contribution to Bow Island. Mac was a fifty-three year member of the Bow Island Catholic Women¹s League. Her faith and her Church were always very important to Mac. She did volunteer work for the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, and was a founding member of the Bow Island Library Board.
Relatives and friends are invited for Prayers at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 1st Street East, Bow Island on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Thursday, September 8 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Joe Kalathilparambil Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Bow Island cemetery.
Mac's family is forever grateful to her relatives and friends who supported her throughout her long illness. We would especially like to thank the staff at St. Michael's Health Centre for the expert care and love they have given to Mac these last years.
