Ross Jensen

1930 - 2018

Ross Jensen, passed away at home in Purple Springs on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the age of 87 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the church prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 between 10:00 A.M. and 10:40 A.M.

The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.

Ross is survived by his children Brenda Harris of Taber, Laura (Bryce) Martin of Taber, Bernadette (Darrell) Ludwig of Lethbridge, Jack (Nancy) Jensen of Kelowna, British Columbia, Judy (Lorne) Hazell of Grassy Lake, Ross Jr Jensen of Medicine Hat and Carolyn (Jeff) Lind of Portland, Oregon; nineteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Susan Dyck of Taber; his former daughter-in-law Candice; sisters Edna Holman of Taber and Rae Shockey of Lethbridge; sisters-in-law Mary Jensen of Purple Springs, Alice Haynes of Taber and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife Edna Jensen; his parents Jim and Maude Jensen; sons Marold Jensen and Russell Jensen; granddaughter Cassidy Jensen; brothers Alvin (Anne), Gerald (Jessie), Glen, Harold, Marion (Louise), Arley and Elmer (Irene); brothers-in-law Orlin Holman and Roy Shockey.

Ross was born in Taber on December 4, 1930. He was the youngest son of ten children and shared his birthday with his beloved “wombmate” twin sister Rae.

Ross was raised on the family farm in Purple Springs where he also attended school. He loved to dance and while at a dance in Taber, he met his sweetheart, Edna Haynes. They married on April 11, 1950 and began farming in the Purple Springs area. In 1958, Ross moved his growing family into the house he built on their own farm in Purple Springs.

Ross was a hard worker and loved being a farmer. He was talented and skilled as an electrician, plumber, carpenter, mechanic and hunter. He also enjoyed music and could play almost any instrument by ear. He had a sharp mind with a good memory. He loved poetry and was still able to recite poems he learned in school. In his later years, Ross enjoyed tinkering on the farm and sharing memories of his adventures with family and friends.
