Karen will be forever loved and missed by her dear husband Brent and their daughters Emma and Lily. She will also be lovingly remembered by her parents Henk and Janny DeVlieger of Taber; her brother Sam (Lesley) DeVlieger of Taber and their family Branson and Barrett and her brother Marten (Janine) DeVlieger of Taber and their family Noah and Kabrina. Karen will also be dearly missed by Brent's family including his parents Tom and Rita Hamilton of Medicine Hat; his grandpa Charlie Schramm of Sparwood; his brother Brad (Ashley) Hamilton of Airdrie and their family Blake, Alya and Elliya, his brother Kevin (Lisa) Hamilton of Medicine Hat and their daughter Khloe and his sister Kelly (Cole) Penner of Medicine Hat and their daughter Mackinley.

She was predeceased by her opa and oma DeVlieger and opa and oma Van Damme; Brent’s grandma Marion Schramm and grandma Ann Veldman.

Karen was born in Taber, the third child born to Henk and Janny. As a baby and toddler, she was their little angel, always happy and content and she loved playing by herself or with her two older brothers. Karen attended Taber Christian School and Immanuel Christian High School where she established lots of friendships that she still has today. She really enjoyed trips to Holland to visit family where she acquired her love for old buildings and history. Following high school, Karen began her post secondary schooling at the University of Lethbridge where she completed her Bachelor of Management Degree. She had a passion for business and while working for her Dad, Karen received her designation as a Certified Management Accountant.

During her time in University, Karen met the love of her life, Brent, who she greatly adored. This soon led to their wedding on a beautiful August day. Karen also loved animals. Growing up, she had pet bunnies and then later in life, her puppy Daisy, who she loved greatly and who helped Karen get through the tough days in life.

Brent and Karen were blessed with twin daughters, Emma and Lily. Karen’s love for her girls was like no other. She faced a life of adversity, being born with Cystic Fibrosis, a condition that caused her lungs to deteriorate over time. Then almost five years ago, on Christmas Eve, she was blessed with the most amazing gift; new lungs from her generous donor family. This gave her a new lease on life. She enjoyed everyday to the fullest with her family; travelling, camping, gardening and entertaining company. She always put God first and was a shining light towards others. Karen will be greatly missed by everyone, especially her loving husband, her two daughters and her family.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Karen’s name may be made directly to The University Hospital Foundation, 8440 - 112 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta T6G 2B7 - memo line: lung transplant - www.universityhospitalfoundation.ab.ca.
