Don was born in Coaldale on November 29, 1945 to John and Helen Unrau and raised on the family farm in Skiff. After his schooling in Skiff and Foremost he attended SAIT in Calgary and studied Agriculture Mechanics. He married Shelly Scullen on November 28, 1970. While raising a family and farming he was active in the Skiff Water Co-op, South Waste Management and Planning Commission. In 2008, Don and Shelly made the decision to venture into irrigation farming with Kevin and Wayne, in Taber.
Don's role changed but he continued to play a huge part in diversifying the farm, he was so proud of those small potatoes and never missed an opportunity to share his pride with family and friends.
Don loved ice fishing, playing cards, having coffee at the Skiff elevator, building and designing with Kevin and keeping his pocket book up to date. He was a hard worker, had a sense of humour and cherished his time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
