On Wednesday, April 4, 2018 Robert William Dick, passed away peacefully at Clearview Lodge in Taber at the age of 73 years.

A private burial service was held at the Vauxhall Cemetery prior to the funeral service.

The Funeral Service was held at the Vauxhall Legion, 217 - 5 Street North, Vauxhall on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 1:00 P.M.

Left to mourn his passing are his children Julie (Sheldon) Harrish of Toronto and Jeff Dick of Surrey British Columbia;  sisters-in-law Shirley (John) Arbuthnott and Barbra Dick; brother-in-law Bob Frederick; nieces Melissa (Ken) Taylor, Christine Frederick, Laura Frederick-Knowlton (Jeff Knowlton) and Cheryl (Scott) Dakiniewich; nephews David (Lara) Dick, Brian (Nicole) Dick and Jaime (Erin) Frederick.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Margery; son Anthony “Tony”; parents Bill and Helen Dick; siblings Alan Dick and Margret Peters; in-laws Bruce and Helen Rowbotham; sister-in-law Joan Frederick and brother-in-law Gordon Peters.

Born in Victoria, British Columbia on January 30, 1945, Bob moved with his family to Calgary in 1951 and resided in the Winston Heights area.  The middle of three children born to Bill and Helen Dick, Bob was the jokester of the family and loved to share a corny joke or pull a prank on his loved ones. Bob loved camping and the outdoors and as a youth was an active member of the scouts. In his later years, he enjoyed hunting fowl and game in southern Alberta. After graduating from high school, he continued his education at the University of Calgary and went on to become a teacher. Bob got his first teaching job at WR Myers in Taber in 1965 and taught there for six years. In 1971 he moved to Vauxhall to become the band director at Vauxhall High School. Bob was very passionate about music and loved the band program in Vauxhall. His students were his pride and joy and he often shared stories of band trips and concerts long after his retirement. The Vauxhall High School Viking Band played internationally at music festivals, they proudly marched in both the Calgary Stampede Parade and the Grey Cup Parade as well as at numerous local concerts and events throughout Bob’s career. He was always very proud of his students and all of their accomplishments. Bob retired from teaching in 2009 after forty three years with the Horizon School Division.

Bob married the love of his life, Margery Rowbotham in 1968 and started a family in Vauxhall in 1972. Bob and Marge dedicated their lives to their children, and spent countless hours coaching baseball, driving them across the countryside to play hockey and weekly trips to Taber for music lessons. He loved his small town life in Vauxhall and was very proud of the town and it’s people.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Bob’s name may be made directly to the Vauxhall Baseball Academy (please make cheque payable to The Horizon School Division), P.O. Box 618 Vauxhall, Alberta T0K 2K0.
