Sherry was born on April 11, 1966. She was the youngest of four children to Albert and Lorraine Gross and baby sister to Brenda, Fred and Tim. She spent her early years in Grassy Lake, attending Chamberlain School until grade four. When Sherry was in grade five, the family moved to Taber where she continued her elementary education at St. Patrick’s School. Sherry spent her high school years at St. Mary’s School and was a member of the graduating class of 1984.
Following her high school graduation, Sherry worked for a few years at the Taber Bowling Alley. After this, she worked at Lacey’s Fabrics. Sherry was a talented seamstress and enjoyed being in a space that was definitely her element. She loved to keep her hands busy with crafting, baking and sewing and she was very generous in sharing the results of her efforts. Sherry was especially delighted when nieces and nephews started to arrive and she made sure that each one of them had something special and original, made “with love” from Aunty Sherry.
In October of 1989, Sherry’s life path was changed suddenly by a brain aneurysm that left her in the Calgary Foothills Hospital for three months. Following her time at the Foothills Hospital, she transitioned to St. Michael’s Hospital in Lethbridge for almost a year. During this time, she experienced extensive rehabilitation. Her last stop was the Taber Hospital, where she stayed until she was able to return home where she was cared for by her mom for the next twenty years. In 2010, she moved to Lethbridge, where she spent three years at St. Therese Assisted Living facility and eventually found her final home at the Edith Cavell Care Center in 2013.
Her creative talents extended even after her illness and with the assistance of those that surrounded her, she continued to ensure that family and loved ones received hand made treasures to cherish.
