Long before we were ready to say goodbye, the family of John E. Maddison of Red Deer announces his sudden passing on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the age of 74 years young.
Relatives and Friends were invited to attend a Celebration of John’s life at the Royal Canadian Legion, 2810 Bremner Avenue, Red Deer on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 A.M.
John is survived by Jacquie (Mike) Kindrachuk, Evan and Ryan; Rick (Joni) Maddison, Jack and Tess; and Joey Maddison.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Patsy; his mother Ruby Maddison and his father John H. Maddison in WWII.
John left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. His career in local and municipal government was his passion. As a respected Town Manager, John held positions in Whitehorse, Stony Plain and Taber and eventually rose to the position of Executive Director of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association in Edmonton. Upon retirement, John was elected to Devon Town Council and immersed himself into the role of asking tough questions and always making elected officials and town staff, stay accountable to the citizens of Devon. For his work on Devon Town Council and Leduc Foundation he was honored with the dedication of a Devon residential complex – Maddison Manor. Upon moving to Red Deer in 2012, he enjoyed journeys on his motorbike and travelling with his friend, Lee.
